This is Ladder Company Three, on display at the September Eleventh Memorial Museum in New York. We show it with respect for those lost that day, and for first responders everywhere. Now look at what it is made of. Not a photograph. Not a model built by hand. Every speck you see is a measured point in space, and there are more than three million of them. They all came from one source. A single sixty-four second walk around the truck, holding an ordinary phone. No laser scanner. No survey rig. No markers on the floor. Nothing but video, shot in a crowded gallery, with people moving through every frame. From that, the shape is rebuilt. The ladder, the hose bed, the crushed cab, the twist in the steel. You can orbit it, inspect it from any angle, and measure across it. If it can do this in a museum, it can do it on your street.
